Flowertop Series

this Collection
This collection of work explores the world of the Flowertop, a creature from my imagination with a flower for a head on top of a humaonoid body. Evolving from experimental combinations of plant images and human forms, the first true Flowertop appeared in the 2000 gouache painting entitled "Flowertop Cabana." This particular imagery fascinated me and continually surfaced in my artwork. In the spring of 2008 I woke one morning with the mysterious desire to write a novel based on the Flowertop and another surreal character, a woman with a fire hydrant for a head ("Where There's Smoke There's Fire," 2005). A 347 page literary novel is now in manuscript form entitled "The Barefoot Guest." The writing has become an extension of my visual imagery and serves to complete these unusual pieces.
